Is Blogging Worth It In 2023?
Is blogging worth it in 2023? Perhaps you have the same question because you want to quit blogging or you want to start blogging but are not sure about this path you're taking.
I understand your predicament and probably you're thinking it might be too late to start a blog when others are already building their fortune from content creation.
So if you're hesitant to know if blogs are still relevant or if blogging is already dead, just read on.
After reading an article on one of the famous publications online, saying or implying that we don't need blogs and websites, I was inspired to write this.
Well, I thought it was just a clickbait title, so I read it until the end, and it turns out the writer is indeed serious in his claims against using websites and blogs.
Ironically, he's writing his claim on a website.
With YouTube, TikTok, and other social media emerging nowadays, many people may not even bother to visit and linger on a website or find out how you eat your pancake every morning.
But let's use logic here – as long as there are people who love to read and share content online, blogs and websites will continue to exist. And some people prefer reading over watching YouTube videos.
So if you're a blogger, a content creator on your blog and website, making your blog thrive this year and in the coming years is purely in your hands.
Is Blogging Worth It?
Of course! Blogs are still relevant in 2023. And I don't find any reason to stop you from starting one.
Since we're talking about you creating a blog soon, you might love to read this mini-ebook of mine, don't worry; it's 100% free.
No matter how difficult and challenging it is to grow your blog traffic, if you're doing the right strategies, blogging is still worth the effort.
What makes a blog so relevant?
– Blog for content creation
Can't you create content or blog on social media?
While people create videos on YouTube as their content and on their social media accounts, some are still using blogs as the endpoint.
I know there are people who sell products on social media, but unless you are someone with a big name, buyers will still want to see more other than the price tag of the products posted on social media.
Buyers and users seek relationships with that wanted to buy – they want more personal contact. They want assurance.
You can post personal content on Instagram, but people will hesitate if you're trying to sell your products or flaunt your outstanding lifestyle.
Sadly, social media platforms like Instagram exist to make you doubt yourself and force you to fake your lifestyle.
– You own your blog
You might not be one of the big names out there. You're not Adidas or one of the Kardashians, but you grew your social media account.
Well, congrats! Many would love to be in your shoes.
But darling, you don't own your social media accounts, and you will never be.
Mr Zuckerberg and his team can shut down your account even without telling you. Hackers will own them and change the email address effortlessly and the team will take their time recovering your account.
But with the blog (please make it self-host) you own it, that's your domain, your property.
So if you're thinking of building your audience, creating a blog is one of the best out there.
– Your blog can be a portfolio
With the digital nomad life and laptop lifestyle getting popular, people spend more time working online.
They can be freelancers in writing, designing, copywriting, social media managing, etc., who rely on websites and blogs as part of their portfolio to showcase their work, past projects and skills.
You can use social media platforms, but as I mentioned above – you can't own them, and the owners of those platforms can snatch your account from you, and you can do little against it.
How to make your blog relevant?
But how can you make it more relevant when there are over 250000 websites created daily and over 7 million blog posts published every single day?
Simply, doing the best blog practices.
Following what works and what doesn't work helps you in your blogging journey.

-Make your blog content appear on Google
Assuming you have already a blog running. You have done the essentials already, like submitting a sitemap and connecting your blog to Google Analytics and Google Search Console.
Now you're in the phase of creating blog posts. While writing can be fun and you can do it spontaneously, if you're thinking of having leverage and ranking on Google, you need to consider SEO.
And you really can't avoid SEO. I tried before but heck – it always confronts me.
Instagram changes, and so does Pinterest as well.
When you rely on these social media platforms to grow your blog traffic, you need to plan out your time well. It is time-consuming when you have to be active every day on these platforms.
You need to create social media graphics and post them almost every day, thence there are services offered for that.
So what are the SEO practices you need to make your blog still a thing online?
– Choose a topic
You can find relevant and trending topics on social media like Pinterest and Twitter, check what other people ask or talk about on Quora, Reddit and other online forums, and check what people post and what needs answers on Facebook and Facebook groups.
You can also search on Google for a topic you have already in mind – from there, you will find a lot of suggestions and what people search for.
Even when you start typing, Google will suggest topics already.
– Search low competitive keywords
While others go for high-competitive keywords with higher search volume like 1000 above, I go for keywords that are non-competitive or low competition keywords. If you're a beginner and don't want to spend a lot on a tool, you can use Keysearch to search for keywords.
Keysearch is very affordable and easy to use as well which I use personally.
Here's how I do keyword research:
– Write and publish your content
After you have found the right keywords for your next blog post, you can start drafting a post. I write directly on WordPress, but sometimes I write first on Google Docs or on Microsoft Word.
Your blog post should have the following elements to make it more relevant:
-SEO optimised title. Optimised means you are using the keywords here.
-Keywords should be mentioned in the first paragraph of your blog post.
-It should have subheadings or the H3 elements with your keywords if possible
-Don't overuse your keywords throughout your post or what we often hear -keyword stuffing
-Use synonyms instead and other word variations of your main keyword
-Use secondary keywords throughout your content.
-Add graphics with alt descriptions and add the keywords at least once in the alt description of the photo.
-Install RankMath to guide you to your writing for SEO. But using RankMath doesn't ensure that your blog post will appear or rank on Google.
-Make your blog post shareable for your visitors and readers.
-Review your blog post before you publish it.
Check out Her Savvy Blog Planner before you start a blog or a new blog.
-Work on your blog like it's your business
After publishing your blog posts, do not celebrate immediately and drink the night away afterwards.
Do you want to make your blog relevant? Then work on it.
If you see people showing their monthly income from blogging and you're there, sulking and wondering, why you don't have that too?
Well, my friend, you don't know what they did to reach that point. You should focus instead on your blogging goals (which I recommend to be present the moment you start blogging) and how you can improve your blog.
If you have no idea on what areas you can work on to have a thriving blog, here are they to give you some overview and maybe a push as well:
- SEO
- Newsletter and email marketing
- Marketing strategies like copywriting
- Social media marketing
- Graphic designing – nope, you don't have to learn HTML, Java, CSS and others, just basic design knowledge will do as long as you don't aim to be the creator of the next biggest social media platform in 2023
- WordPress
- Product creation like digital products to sell or to give away as part of an opt-in offer
- Skills you already have
- Communication especially if you see yourself creating a podcast or video
Is blogging a good way to make money?
Yes, it is if you're someone who wants to rather work on a laptop, especially if you're a homebody type of person. Plus, you don't need a huge investment to start a blog and there are ways to monetize your blogs like selling services and digital products.
Now, if you're still asking, is blogging dead?
No, but it will be if you don't do something to make your blog relevant this year and in the coming years.
