It's a lucrative business and it's an incredible opportunity for you to earn a living online.

A lot of people don't realize that most data entry jobs from home require an investment upfront.

This means you're paying to get started, without the guarantee you'll even make your money back.

But we don't have time for that!!!

Lucky for you I have a curated list of 20 different data entry jobs that meet all 3 of our criteria.

  • It's a work from home job
  • No investment necessary to get started
  • Legitimate and easy to apply for

I'll take you through the breakdown of each job so you can pick which data entry gig would work best for you.

Some of these jobs are through job portals or companies looking to hire right away.

Either way… there's something on this list for everyone. Also, keep in mind that a few of these jobs are not fully remote, but can offer fully remote positions.

Before we dive into our super helpful list, we want to answer a few questions that might be swarming around in your brain.

1. What is Data Entry?

Data entry can be a very broad term that includes clerks, typists, electronic data processors, word processors, transcribers, and coders.

In short, you get hired to enter data for a company, or you transfer data from one source to the next.

But there's more to it than just typing. Data Entry is used as a means for businesses to do well, better business.

Data Entry is nothing new. It's been around ever since computers were introduced to the general public.

You can have a data entry job in healthcare, finance, politics, retail, and transportation… the list goes on.

With the rise of entrepreneurship, and small businesses surfacing… now more than ever there are countless data entry jobs from home without investment to choose from.

This is helpful for these companies because then they can outsource work that needs to be done more efficiently.

2. Is the job of Data Entry itself difficult?

That depends on quite a few contributing factors.

First, you have to ask yourself if sitting in front of a computer is for you? Because you will be in front of one for long hours throughout the day.

Most data entry veterans have reported that the tasks themselves are not difficult. However, it takes a lot of time and tedious tasking.

The companies will give you access to what tasks need to be completed and then you complete them.

Most data entry jobs come with training, which is helpful when you're first learning.

At the end of the day, if you are tech-savvy then you can most likely figure out data entry.

You should have a basic understanding of Google Docs, email, Excel, and Microsoft Word.

They also would prefer for you to have a Macbook or a Microsoft computer when working with them, though this is rare to have that demand.

It's important to note that some companies have a required word-per-minute or keystroke standard.

So if you're a super slow-as-turtle kind of typer… this job may not be for you

3. What are the ways you can get paid for data entry?

It depends from company to company but most common ways to calculate your payment will be:

  • Hourly wage (which is extremely rare in this specific industry)
  • Keystrokes per hour or keystrokes per minute
  • Per-word
  • Per-piece (this means you're paid for each project or piece completed)

To transfer your payment, the companies would most likely use PayPal (create a free account here), cheque, or direct bank transfer. Payment schedule can either be daily, weekly, or monthly.

Here are 10+ more jobs that pay on a daily basis you might want to apply for!

Please note: Most of the companies/job boards do not disclose how much they pay on their website but don't let that stop you from applying!! Do it!

4. What equipment/resources are needed for data entry?

Data entry requires little to no equipment beyond a computer and WiFi.

With your computer, you will want to make sure that you have a working microphone and camera as well.

This makes working in data entry a very low-risk job to start to earn money without paying a lot of money upfront.

Think about it, if you were to start a brick-and-mortar business then there would be thousands upon thousands of dollars UPFRONT.

Just to get started you'd have to invest a heck of a whole lot of moolah…again, without the guarantee of making any of that money back.

Lucky for you, we can look at earning income online through data entry without any crazy investments.

Sound good?

Yeah, yeah, I know we bring “up” UpWork a lot but it's an amazing freelancing site so we must put it on the list!

UpWork allows you to create a profile for data entry and then you can pitch your services to employers looking for your matched skill sets.

Unlike Fiverr, you have to wait for jobs to come to you. Whereas on UpWork you can get started and find a job pretty quickly.

It's important to make a profile that sells and shares your abilities so don't skip on that section.

You can set your rate as well, but some companies will offer jobs that are at a higher pay rate-win, win!

Again, none of these companies will ask for any money up front and it's safe to say that 95% of them (if you work full time) will offer employee benefits.

Check them out!

16. FlexJobs

FlexJobs

Similar to Jooble… this is a job hosting portal that also has an insane amount of data entry jobs from home without investment.

Here's a quick tip… for faster applying, create an account and resume.

From there, pick about 15-20 different data entry jobs you think you'd be a good fit for.

You can share and submit your application to all of them with just a click of a button.

This will allow you to find these jobs more quickly and get started asap!

17. Scribie

“Hey! But I thought this was a transcriptionist website!”

Well, they are… that's what they're known for. But they also have data entry jobs available!

To be honest, the pay isn't that great however, it's a place to get your fingers typing and build up some experience.

18. Go Transcript

Go Transcript

Again, another transcription website that just so happens to offer data entry jobs from home without investment as well.

If your application is accepted you must undergo training and certification before you can get started.

This is another great website to “try” it out and see if you want to pursue data entry, to begin with.

Major companies like Forbes, Fast Company, Inc have used this website for their services.

You could potentially work with major companies in your data entry endeavors.

19. Quicktate

This is another platform that offers data entry services, however, they are very limited.

Why do transcription platforms also offer data entry services?

This is because most people looking for their audios to be transcribed need a data entry person to help them continue the project.

While the data entry jobs on this site are a little more spaced out… you can still find some incredible opportunities on the site.

20. Axion Data Services

Last but not least… We have Axion Data Services.

This company is a top-tiered platform that works with data entry candidates to perform their tasks. This is a great company to get started with and build a long-term career in data entry.

While they do have remote hiring positions, please keep in mind that the acceptance rate for applications is not as high.

According to their website, it states, “Must have 2-3 years’ data entry experience with a keystroke rate of 15,000 keystrokes per hour (equivalent to 50 words per minute) error-free.”

This is because they have a high level of production and if you can't keep up with the workload then you can't work with them.

Also, keep in mind that they do have a directory that costs around $5 to post your services on.

Final Words

There you have it! What a list!

Remember, no TRUE data entry company will ever ask you to pay upfront or give your credit card in exchange for work. So if they do… run for the hills and stay far away!

Data entry is regarded as one of the “easiest” ways to earn money online.

This is because it's not something that takes a whole lot of creativity. It's more tedious in tasks.

Although, we are impressed by super fasts typists… like 200 words per minute typists. Now that's talent!!

Data entry is an amazing way to earn money online, however, there are countless other job forms out there too. For example, you could start a blog, become a copywriter, or a graphic designer!

You could get into website design or web development or affiliate marketing. There are truly endless ways to make money online and data entry is only one of them.

It's important to know if data entry is for you before applying for any positions. Many people who've worked in data entry have reported that it's the “same thing, over and over.”

So if you're not a fan of familiar work in terms of how redundant it is daily then you might want to consider a different vocation.

However, if you don't mind the redundancy of the work then you can look into some of these options.

See which ones work for you! If you're not entirely sure if data entry is for you then maybe look into a different path.

We have countless articles on how to make money online so be sure to check them out!

A few questions to ask yourself… which of these jobs or job portals could you see yourself connecting with?

After reading this article do you feel that data entry is for you? Why or why not?

What is it about data entry that inspires you to pursue it as a means of income?

Do you like redundant work that's the same and consistent? Or do I prefer more creative and sporadic work?
